The simmering crisis between the two camps claiming leadership of the house is borne out of a proxy political battle between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Joseph Fubara backing the Jumbo-house and his erstwhile benefactor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.

In the heat of the crisis, Justice Charles Wali of the Rivers State High Court had upheld the speakership of Jumbo, restrained the defendants from sitting and declared the seats of Amaewhule & others vacant for having “defected” to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party on whose vehicle they rode to the House.

The panel of three-member Justices: Jimi Olukayode Bada, Hamma Akawu Barka and Balkisu Bello Aliyu JJCA is expected to deliver a ruling that will settle the political imbroglio in the state, despite an appeal to the Supreme Court not off the books.
