LAGOS — Governorship aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Lagos State, Naheem Balogun, has assured supporters that he remains confident of securing the party’s ticket for the 2027 governorship election, while urging calm over reports of internal disputes within the party.
Balogun gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving party members and supporters shortly after returning from a brief trip to the United States.
He expressed appreciation for the turnout of supporters, describing their presence as a strong source of motivation.
The aspirant dismissed rumours suggesting that another candidate had emerged as the party’s flag bearer, insisting that he remains the recognised candidate of the party.
“I urge all our supporters not to be distracted by rumours and misinformation. You should remain calm, focused and steadfast. The mandate given to us by party members cannot be taken away through speculation and propaganda,” he said.
Balogun added that he would continue to engage stakeholders across Lagos State and ensure that key decisions are taken through consultation.
“I will continue to protect the interests of our supporters and the NDC faithful. I will not take any decision affecting our collective future without consulting stakeholders across Lagos State. This project belongs to the people, and together we will determine its direction,” he said.
He thanked party members across the state’s local government areas for their continued support, describing their commitment as the foundation of his political movement.
Balogun also reaffirmed his commitment to following due party processes in resolving any disputes arising from the governorship primary election.
In recent weeks, the NDC has experienced internal tensions over the outcome of its governorship primary, with competing claims and allegations causing divisions within the party.
The aspirant, however, urged members to remain united and avoid actions that could weaken the party ahead of future elections.
