Bandits Attack Police Station, Block New Bussa-Mokwa Highway

Bandits suspected to be members of Lukarawa terrorists group yesterday blocked Mokwa-New Bussa Road, invaded communities and attacked a police station in Zurgurma Mashegu local government area of Niger State.

LEADERSHIP gathered from the villagers that the bandits came on hundreds of motorcycles bearing sophisticated firearms including RPG .

A resident of Zurgurma, Malam  Mohammed Sani,  said: “We watched  from our hidden places, with houses  and gates  closed as they reigned supreme in our communities on long convoy of motorcycles.”

He said though they did not fire at them, the situation needed urgent attention while appealing  to security agencies to assist them  as  a matter of urgency to  take a proactive measures before any  attack was launched  on the community.

Another resident who preferred anonymity told LEADERSHIP that they invaded the community but they did not attack people except the police station as they blocked New Bussa-Mokwa Highway forcing motorists to turn back.

The Niger State Police Command spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun (SP) confirmed that “report received indicated that some group of bandits blocked Mokwa-Bussa Road, and invaded Zugurma village Mashegu LGA, while they also attacked the police post in the village.

“However, joint security teams responded, and the bandits fled to Ibbi forest, while the road was cleared for motorists and normalcy was restored without any record of abduction. Further development will be communicated, please,” he told LEADERSHIP.
