The Democratic Youth Assembly of Nigeria (DYAN) has pledged to support the Armed Forces of Nigeria in countering propaganda, misinformation, disinformation and harmful narratives capable of undermining public trust in security institutions and national cohesion.

The commitment was made during an engagement between the organisation and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, at the Defence Headquarters.

The National Coordinator and Chairman of the National Executive Council of DYAN, Amb. Bashir p poolNasiru Garki, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supportingll the Armed Forces through lawful, constructive and strategic youth participation in national security efforts.

Garki said the initiative was designed to bridge the gap between the military and civilian population, particularly young Nigerians, by strengthening trust, improving public understanding of military operations and promoting national unity.

He said DYAN was ready to collaborate with the Defence Headquarters to implement the initiative across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

According to him, the project has reached an advanced preparatory stage and requires institutional support from the military for full-scale implementation.

The organisation also expressed appreciation for the Flag of Honour presented to it by the Chief of Defence Staff, describing the gesture as a symbol of trust, partnership and shared commitment to Nigeria’s peace, security and prosperity.

DYAN reaffirmed its commitment to nation-building and pledged continued support for the Armed Forces in addressing contemporary security challenges through innovative, youth-driven solutions.

Representing the CDS, the Director of Civil-Military Relations, Rear Admiral S. A. Lawal, expressed appreciation for DYAN’s proposed national security initiative, describing it as a constructive effort to support the Armed Forces in addressing emerging security challenges.

Lawal commended the organisation for its patriotic commitment, innovative ideas and sustained efforts to strengthen national security, promote peace and advance nation-building through responsible youth engagement.

He said the Armed Forces recognised and valued the constructive role of Nigerian youths in safeguarding national stability, particularly through strategic communication, public enlightenment and efforts to counter misinformation and disinformation threatening civil-military relations and national cohesion.

According to him, DYAN’s proposed youth-driven intervention would complement ongoing military efforts by addressing harmful narratives, social media propaganda and coordinated information manipulation capable of weakening public confidence in security institutions.

He further commended the organisation for its structured approach, noting that DYAN had undertaken extensive preparatory work, including feasibility studies and consultations with traditional rulers, civil society organisations, media practitioners and youth groups across the country.
