The Kwara Young Progressive Forum and Good Governance Initiative has described Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as the strongest governorship prospect for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group stated that the APC stands a better chance of retaining power in the state if Seriki emerges as its governorship candidate.
In a statement signed by its Convener, Dr. Adams Abdulwahab Opeyemi, on Sunday, the group called on the APC leadership at both the national and state levels to reconsider its position regarding Seriki’s governorship ambition.
According to the statement, the forum believes Seriki remains a formidable political figure capable of leading the party to victory in the state.
The group expressed concern over what it described as the treatment of Seriki, whom it characterized as a loyal and committed member of the party.
It argued that overlooking dedicated party members could affect confidence within the APC and strengthen opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
The forum maintained that Seriki’s political experience, grassroots support and contributions to the party make him a strong contender for the governorship ticket.
It also highlighted his involvement in the “O To Ge” political movement, which reshaped the political landscape in Kwara State and contributed to the APC’s rise to power.
According to the group, Seriki enjoys considerable support among young people in the state and has demonstrated commitment to economic empowerment through his business and philanthropic activities.
The statement noted that his entrepreneurial ventures and empowerment programmes have provided employment opportunities and support for many residents.
The forum further appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC national leadership and other stakeholders in the Kwara chapter of the party to ensure a transparent and inclusive process ahead of the party’s governorship primaries.
It stressed the need for decisions that would strengthen party unity and improve the APC’s chances in the 2027 governorship election.
The group urged party leaders to engage all stakeholders and work towards sustaining the APC’s electoral success in Kwara State.
