Sheffield United have re-signed Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on a season-long loan, the club announced Tuesday. The 30-year-old, who made just three appearances during a prior loan spell at Bramall Lane in February due to a knee injury, returns seeking to revive his campaign.
Phillips joined City from Leeds United in 2022 for £45 million on a six-year contract and was part of the club’s historic Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup Treble-winning side in 2023. The former England international has since fallen out of favour at Etihad Stadium.
“This was the move I wanted. My time was spoiled by my last game and the injury after that, so I’m here to put that right,” Phillips told the club website.
Manager Chris Wilder added, “We’ve stayed in contact with Kalvin throughout the summer… Make no mistake, this is a good deal for the football club.”
