Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), have arrested 46 foreign nationals during a security operation in Ogun State.
The suspects comprise 18 citizens of Burkina Faso, 23 citizens of Côte d’Ivoire, four citizens of Togo, and one citizen of Senegal. Among them are 36 males and 10 females.
The development was disclosed on Monday by Major Idereghi Samuel Akari, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade.
According to him, the operation commenced on June 11, 2026, following intelligence reports and led to the arrest of the suspects at various locations in Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese and neighbouring communities.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the individuals had been residing in the area for about six months and that their immigration status was being examined by relevant authorities.
During questioning, the suspects reportedly stated that they were merchants and workers associated with QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various products and services.
Major Akari said the suspects had been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ogun State Command, for further investigation and any necessary administrative action in line with applicable laws.
Commenting on the operation, the Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, commended the troops and collaborating security agencies for their professionalism and vigilance.
He also urged residents to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
The military said the operation reflects ongoing efforts by security agencies to strengthen border and immigration enforcement and enhance internal security.
