•As AMATO plans QR verification system

The Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) has upgraded its Members Web Application Database as part of efforts to strengthen professionalism, transparency, and operational efficiency within the maritime haulage sector particularly in Lagos ports.
AMATO disclosed that the latest round of improvements was carried out entirely by its in-house technical team without the involvement of external software developers, a development it described as a demonstration of its commitment to digital transformation and innovation.
According to the association, the upgraded platform reflects its determination to continuously improve its systems in line with emerging technologies and global best practices.
The enhanced database now features intelligent duplicate-prevention mechanisms, cross-validation processes, and year-based data management tools designed to improve the integrity, reliability, and credibility of members’ records.
AMATO noted that while members’ database may appear routine, the continuous refinement of the platform is essential to addressing operational weaknesses and ensuring that membership information remains accurate, verifiable, and auditable.
The association further revealed plans to integrate QR code technology into the system, enabling real-time verification of membership records by stakeholders and members of the public.
AMATO said it is exploring opportunities to securely share relevant database Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) with critical stakeholders to facilitate seamless operations, improve transparency, strengthen regulatory confidence, and enhance investor trust in the maritime haulage industry.
According to AMATO, the database initiative is aimed at eliminating challenges often faced by transport associations when required to provide dependable and verifiable membership records that meet international standards.
The association added that the database project is one of several innovative solutions it has developed and championed in pursuit of a more efficient, transparent, and technology-driven maritime transport sector.
Meanwhile, the association has introduced an insurance scheme for truck operators known as AMATO-PAGO (Pay-As-You-Load Insurance), aimed at providing affordable and accessible insurance coverage not only to AMATO members but also to independent transporters operating within the maritime haulage industry.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Ajibola Adeshina, Head of Technical and Research at AMATO, said the association remains committed to developing practical solutions that address industry challenges while promoting efficiency and sustainability.
According to him, the introduction of the insurance package and other technology-driven initiatives demonstrates that AMATO is capable of creating innovative solutions that can compete with global standards, driven by vision, commitment, and a strong culture of innovation.
